1915 Bacanora Blanco, imported by Arizona-based Black Tie Imports, has been awarded a Double Gold Medal by The Tasting Alliance’s New York World Spirit Competition on September 12, 2023.
Black Tie Imports began its search for the perfect agave spirit in the mountainous region of Sonora, Mexico, looking for an artisanal product that followed traditional methods while adhering to sustainable practices and world-class production.
Finding 1915 Bacanora Blanco allowed the Arizona firm to tell a story. Bacanora was outlawed in Mexico for over 70 years starting in 1915. In the town of Bacanora, Sonora, with a population of less than 600 inhabitants and the epicenter of the eponymous liquor, the prohibition is still fresh in people’s minds. With this forbidden era in mind, 1915 Bacanora was born.
Employing traditions that have been handed down for generations, from harvesting the wild Angustafolia Haw, to the cooking of the agave in stone-lined oven pits, 1915 Bacanora Blanco steps onto the international scene winning a Double Gold Medal at The Tasting Alliance’s NYWSC competition to be counted “among the finest spirits in the world”.
